How to choose the right injector for you: Guide for Winnipeg Clients

Updated: Oct 22

Finding the right Botox and filler injector in Winnipeg is crucial to achieve your desired results. With numerous options available, it's important to consider a few things other than just looking for the cheapest price.

This blog post aims to provide you with valuable insights on selecting the perfect injector for your Botox, filler, and other medical aesthetics treatments.

Experience and Credentials: Begin your search by thoroughly researching potential injectors. Look for medical offices or clinics in Winnipeg that have experienced and qualified professionals specializing in cosmetic injectables. Check their credentials, including certifications, licenses, and training. Not all training courses are created equally. Unfortunately some injectors opt for weekend courses with minimal hands-on training. Injectors will also have different medical backgrounds such as LPN/RN, NP, MD, dentist.. One is not necessarily better than the other; however a newly graduated LPN versus a nurse practitioner or physician will have a very different understanding of your medical history, your medications, and how they may affect your treatments. Are they well rounded medical professionals? Can you trust them to manage a complication or an emergency situation? Look for affiliations with reputable medical organizations, which can indicate their commitment to maintaining industry standards. Do they keep up with continuing education? This includes attending conferences, webinars, and in person mentorship programs. Consider the experience and specialization of the injector. Find out how long they have been practicing and inquire about the number of Botox and filler procedures they have performed. Is this their full time job or simply a side gig? Experience plays a significant role in achieving optimal results. Additionally, inquire about their expertise in specific areas, such as lip augmentation, cheek contouring, or wrinkle reduction, depending on your needs.

Compatibility, Consultation and Communication: How does the injector look? Is the injector overdone or unnaturally frozen? If so, they may not match or fit with your aesthetic goals. Would you trust their opinion or what “looks good, refreshed, rejuvenated, etc”? Book a consultation with the injector to discuss your goals, expectations, and concerns. This meeting allows you to gauge their level of attentiveness, knowledge, and ability to address your specific needs. A skilled injector will carefully listen to your desires, offer expert advice, and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique features. Do you feel comfortable bringing up your concerns, asking questions, and following up with them? Do you feel heard when discussing your concerns? Are you able to easily reach them in case of emergency? Are they able to easily accommodate a follow up visit if needed?

Client Testimonials and Before/After Photos: Search for other client testimonials and ask for before/after photos. Genuine feedback from previous clients can provide valuable insights into an injector's skills, professionalism, and ability to deliver satisfying results. By reviewing before/after photos, you can assess the quality and consistency of their work.

Safety and Sterility: Ensure that their office space adheres to strict safety and hygiene protocols. The facility should maintain a clean and sterile environment, with proper sanitation practices and infection control measures in place. Is their office space clean, comfortable and professional or is it located out of their home? Inquire about the source and quality of their injectable products, ensuring that they are approved by Health Canada. Note that home “botox parties” are not permitted by the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba and by doing so demonstrates a lack of professionalism and disregard or non compliance to their professional regulatory body. Botox parties or receiving any type of injectable when alcohol is being served also nulls informed consent. Lastly, if you are receiving a dermal filler treatment, ensure they carry a proper emergency medical kit including hyaluronidase, in case of vascular occlusion or compromise.

By following these five tips, you'll be sure to find the right injector for you! Remember, never be scared of asking questions!
